baby, Bella, bonnet

I’m married to a handsome Air Force man, mother to a little spitfire named Bella, and furry mom to Dudley Do-Right and Piper Cub. After a crisis of career identity after marrying my military guy, I formed Based in Design while seeing the problems that friends faced when moving to new bases and into new homes with their favorite things! In a flash of brilliance, I realized that interior design services could easily coincide with this crazy life and started dreaming up the methodology behind the business.

Now, almost five years later, I’m working remotely for clients worldwide!  I absolutely cannot believe how much this experience and pathway of life has changed me.

I dream of a day when military spouses will be empowered and enabled to work by the local governances, or the political arena will change to provide remote job opportunities regardless of station location.

Along the journey, little bits of the places we’ve lived have settled in my heart in a unique way. In Mississippi, I learned how to actually work a camera and found a passion for taking photos of the abandoned for kicks and giggles.  If you’d like to check out that side passion, take a gander at @intothewildabandon on Instagram.

In New Mexico, we added a tiny human to our family. She’s added a realization that no matter how much you design a home, it’ll never clean itself, and it will always looked lived in.  It’s been an incredibly joy to let go of the image of a perfect home and to embrace where we are at in this season of life.  It’s also introduced me to new products that are kid friendly and still beautiful for your space.
